The upcoming Anbernic RG505 just got a first look. It seems like PS2 emulation on the go (and on the cheap) is a closer reality than many might think!

Anbernic’s WIN600 Windows handheld was a much awaited console in the emulation scene. However, the device doesn’t seem to have caught the fancy of too many with the $300+ price tag.

Not just that, we also caught the Miyoo Mini-inspired mystery vertical handheld in the wild, which is yet another handheld from Anbernic.

Now, news is that Anbernic are working on YAAH (Yet Another Anbernic Handheld), the Anbernic RG505; here’s more information on this upcoming handheld.

Anbernic RG505: Video and Picture

Anbernic posted a video of the RG505 in action, and here it is for you to check out.

Update: We’ve got our hands on a another render of the Anbernic RG505. Have a look at it right here.

Design and Controls

Clearly seen in the minute-long video are the design and controls of the Anbernic RG505. A D-pad on the left, ABXY buttons on the right, along with analogue sticks on both sides.

Anbernic RG505 PS2 gameplay

From the name, knowing Anbernic’s naming scheme, it is apparent that the screen is a 5-incher. Perhaps the same as the one used on the Anbernic RG503? For those unaware, the RG503 uses a 5-inch OLED panel, which remains as one of the highlights of the device.

Anbernic RG505 Specifications

The RG505 is expected to feature the following specifications:

  • 5-inch OLED screen
  • Unisoc T618 processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • Android OS

Anbernic finally seem to be giving in to the lure of Android. While this is not going to be their first Android handheld, it does seem to be in vogue. The recently announced Retroid Pocket 3 is another such handheld that runs Android. The long-rumored Miyoo P60 too will run Android.

As for the specifications of the Anbernic RG505, we know so far that it will run Android, and have a 5-inch screen. The digit ‘5’ at the end signifies a chipset we haven’t yet seen on an Anbernic — so it’s likely that the RG505 will ship with either a MediaTek or a new chipset altogether.

It will be interesting to see how the RG505 stacks up against the Pocket 3, and whether it will better the Retroid Pocket 3 specifications.

This post will be updated as and when there is more info about the RG505 available. Do subscribe to the newsletter to stay in the loop!
